    Chairman’s Report.

It is mid-summer once again and time to prepare my piece for the autumn Newsletter and we are as usual enjoying a typically English summer season – sun, rain and wind etc and that is all in one afternoon.  However, we are enjoying our car outings, coach outings and walks.  One recent walk took place on a very wet day but still twelve hardy stalwarts turned up and enjoyed themselves.

If the opportunity arises in the near future I recommend a visit to Baddesley Clinton.  At the moment there is scaffolding on the side of the property and work is taking place to repair and replace worn out stonework.  I was privileged to climb the scaffold and observe the work in progress close up.  Very interesting but not marvellous for someone scared of heights!  It is expected that the work will be completed by the beginning of September.  This work is being paid for by the Walsall Association courtesy of the late Ena Eades’ legacy.

I look forward to welcoming you all at our September meetings and throughout the autumn and winter months. Once again a very interesting and varied programme has been arranged. In the meantime continue to enjoy any summer that we might be fortunate enough to have.

Ray Murray

Chairman

I am pleased to report that the stonework at Baddesley Clinton has now been completed.  This work was paid for out of Ena Eades' legacy and because of this committee members were invited to Baddesley Clinton to see the results of the work on 13 September.  We were given an excellent tour and treated to a very pleasant afternoon tea.  It is good to know that the support of the local Associations is appreciated at a higher level.

At the time of going to press with this report 33 of our members have booked for the holiday.

                                          Our Thanks.

We are very grateful to our former Lecture Secretary, Peter Hill, who has proved to be excellent in all he has done in ensuring that we have had a very varied and interesting programme.  He has also arranged the programme for the forthcoming year.  Peter will be a hard act to follow and in expressing our thanks we wish both him and his wife, Margaret every happiness in the future.

                       Changes to Committee.

Following our Annual General Meeting in April we are pleased to welcome two new members to the Management Committee.  They are Dr Malcolm Taylor, who is our new vice-chairman and Margaret Wood who is taking over as Lecture Secretary from Peter Hill.  They are both very capable and enthusiastic and we are very happy to have them working with us on the committee.
